Passionate about history and addicted to family history, Cathie Sherwood has been researching her Irish, English and Scottish ancestors for over 40 years. She regularly attends, and presents at, family history conferences, one being the inaugural Rootstech London 2019. Cathie featured in an episode of the 2020 Australian edition of WDYTYA and is a Global Ambassador for the Friends of Findmypast program.
Passionate about history and addicted to family history, Cathie has been researching her Irish, English and Scottish ancestors for over 40 years. She has managed her own consultancy business and worked in universities for over twenty years, as an academic in information and communication technology and education, retiring as an Associate Professor.
Cathie is a great believer in the value of family history education and regularly attends conferences, seminars and institutes in Australia and overseas. She shares her knowledge by volunteering at her local family history society and presenting at numerous conferences, seminars and other events on a range of family history topics. She was one of only two Australians selected to present at the inaugural RootsTech London 2019. Cathie was recently featured in an episode of the Australian version of Who Do You Think You Are 2020. In addition to her expertise in English, Irish and Scottish ancestry, Cathie is experienced in researching British families in India between 1600 and 1947.
How can we as family historians locate someone who seems to be almost ‘invisible’? The problem isn’t that there are few records available, but rather how thoroughly we investigate and analyse the sources we do find. This presentation outlines ways we can look “outside the box” when searching for the women in our families.
